Statues of Memnon at Thebes, during The Inundation

The Nile river during its flood stage – in the foreground at waters edge a group of men labor with ancient temple masonry – beyond them two colossal stone ststues, their pedestals in the rising water face away from the viewer towards the Sun, split at the horizon – more ancient structures in the far distance – a herd of cows are watered at left.
