The Mourners

There are seven women in mourning, as well as a tiny girl. Each is dressed in a large grey-blue dress with fringes and ties below the breasts, including the girl. In the Theban necropolis, this tint is unique. White headbands, a sign of sadness, keep their unkempt hair in place. All of them are making the customary despair gestures. The last of the mourners appears to want to rush to the bier in the back, in a very theatrical composition, while the girl tries to stop her.
