Entrance to Tombs of the Assaseef

View of the necropolis of Asasif in a rugged barren mountainous landscape. Entrances to some of the rock-cut tombs are visible in middle ground; three local men and a donkey are in the foreground. Asasif is a small valley located on the West Bank at Thebes, not far from the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri. The necropolis includes many private tombs, mainly dating from the early New Kingdom (XVIII Dynasty) as well as from the beginning of the Late Period (XXV and XXVI Dynasties).
