Nobles Art Gallery sells antiques, statues and vintage jewellery from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its owner, Mohamed, is said to walk visitors through the collection piece by piece. It is a shop, not to be confused with the Tombs of the Nobles on the West Bank.
Status (checked October 2026): the gallery’s listed address is 17 Corniche el Nile Street. It has displayed part of its collection in the Old Winter Palace, which closed for restoration in early 2026 and is announced to reopen in 2027 as the Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace (dates have varied). We have not confirmed whether Nobles is open or where its display now is, so call ahead.
What It Sells
The collection includes statues and sculptures in stone, bronze and wood, Islamic bronze bowls and trays, and vintage jewellery.
Antiques Are Not Antiquities
This is the question that matters when you buy. Egypt’s antiquities law (Law No. 117 of 1983, as amended) prohibits the export of antiquities, and a commonly cited definition treats objects more than 100 years old as antiquities. On that measure, anything dated before about 1926 qualifies by age alone, which covers much of the late 19th- and early 20th-century material a shop like this describes. We cannot tell you whether any specific piece is covered. Check the current definition and clearance process with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities before you buy. Ask:
- How old is it, and where did it come from?
- Will you write that on the receipt?
- Does this piece fall under the antiquities definition, does it need export clearance, and who issues it?
